PROJECT INFORMATION

One of Heartland’s most impressive projects, the new Kempsville Recreation Center in Virginia Beach was completed in the summer of 2017. Kempsville included both a competition pool, leisure pool, aquatic play features, a gymnasium, indoor running track, class rooms, administrative offices, and various support spaces.

Kempsville was a challenging project that featured large glue-laminated beams in the Natatorium and Fitness Area, a complex, twisted/reversing pitched roof, extensive curtain wall systems, and a massive geothermal well system, all nestled within a tightly confined residential neighborhood.

Heartland is proud to be part of the team that delivered this complex project and credits HBA Architecture, Speight Marshal Francis, Moody Nolan, Pace Collaborative, Kimley-Horn, and GET Solutions for their remarkable design and helpful partnerships during construction.
